Kwami Alorvi, Board Chairman

A product of Jasikan Training College (now Jasikan College of Education) and University of Cape Coast, UCC.

He was the President of Casely Hayford Hall, University of Cape Coast (UCC).

He was a sportsman and captained the UCC Volleyball Team during his student days.

He became a teaching assistant at the Department of Geography, during which time he was also elected as President of the National Service Personnel Association, UCC.

He has over thirty-seven years of service to the Ghana Education Service as an educator and administrator.

He taught Geography in Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast, for over twenty-two years.

He was also a member of the Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba, representing professional teachers’ associations.

He retired from the Ghana Education Service as a Headmaster.

Kwami Alorvi was also a former Chairman of the Mepe Development Association (MDA), a development-oriented group that sees to the social and economic development of the Mepe Traditional Area, as well as the organisation of the annual Mepe Afenorto festival of the Chiefs and people of the area. He is currently an advisor to the MDA.

He was a former president of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT).

He is a member of the Education Committee of the National Democratic Congress party.

He is a strong advocate for teachers

Dr. Christian Addai-Poku is presently the Registrar of the National Teaching Council, an agency responsible for regulating and professionalising teaching in Ghana.

With over 31 years of experience in the education sector, Christian is an educationist who has served in various capacities from classroom teaching to headship of schools and is presently head of an education agency within the Ministry of Education.

He has also served in various union capacities, including being the Vice President and President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT)and the President of Education International, Africa Region.

 He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership, an MPhil in Educational Administration, a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and a Diploma in Pension Fund Management. He is a Chartered Pension Analyst Manager and a Fellow of the American Association of Financial Management (AAFM).

Christian was once the Secretary General and presently the Deputy President of the Africa Federation of Teacher Regulatory Authority (AFTRA). He is also the Focal Point representing ECOWAS on UNESCO’s International Teacher Task Force.

He has served on many boards and councils, including the Ghana Education Service (GES)Council, the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) Council, the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Council, the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) Board, and the National School Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) Board.

 He is also a Trustee of the Ghana Education Service Occupational Pension Scheme and a member of the NAGRAT Fund Board.

Dr. Addai-Poku is an expert in teacher leadership and professionalism.

Prof. Samuel Ofori Obuobisah Bekoe has more than eighteen (18) years of experience in higher education; teaching, research, supervision, administration and governance. He taught at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and served as a Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, and also as a member of the Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba at various periods.

He was the Director of the Institute for Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development (ITECPD) of the University of Education, Winneba, until his appointment as the Director-General of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA). Prof. Bekoe also served as the National President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) between 2013 and 2015. He possesses demonstrable expertise, skills and experience in strategic leadership, high-level governmental engagement, policy development, monitoring and review. He is also an expert in curriculum design and development, educational assessment and evaluation amongst others.

Prof. Bekoe has also been engaged in leadership training, capacity building and development of training manuals, with several years of experience working with both local and international organisations on several education/training and research related projects.

Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson is a distinguished Professor of Guidance and Counselling and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Somanya, Ghana.

He is an accomplished academic and administrator with extensive experience in educational leadership and human development. His scholarship and professional practice span guidance and counselling, educational psychology, and human resource development.

Prof. Nyarko-Sampson is widely respected for his commitment to academic excellence and sustainable development. He has served on various Councils/Boards as Chairman and Member.

Professor Emmanuel Osei Sarpong is a distinguished academic, education administrator, and national policy contributor with over two decades of experience in teacher education, sports science, and higher education leadership in Ghana. He is currently the Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and an Associate Professor of Physical Education and Sports (Exercise and Sports Science) in the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports.

Prof. Sarpong holds a PhD in Human Kinetics Education (Exercise Physiology) from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, an MSc in Health Services Planning and Management from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and professional training in sports coaching from the University of Leipzig, Germany. His research focuses on physical activity for health, injury prevention, and sports performance, with numerous publications in reputable international journals.

Beyond academia, he has provided extensive national service, serving on key boards and committees including the National Teaching Council (NTC), National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), and the National Sports Authority (NSA). He is also the National Coordinator for the School and Grassroots Sports Secretariat.

Prof. Sarpong brings to the NTC Board strong ability in curriculum development, assessment, continuous professional development, governance, and teacher quality assurance, contributing significantly to strengthening teacher professionalism and educational standards in Ghana.

 

 

Prof. Tahiru Salifu Azeko ((PhD) is a distinguished scholar in Materials Science and Engineering, specializing in Structural and Multifunctional Materials, as well as Materials Selection and Design. He earned his BSc from the University for Development Studies, Ghana, followed by an MSc and PhD from the African University of Science and Technology, Nigeria, and postdoctoral research in the US and France.

His research focuses on developing cost-effective, environmentally friendly green composites. He has published over 38 research papers in prestigious journals indexed in Science Citation Index (SCI) and Scopes, with over 363 citations. He serves as a reviewer and guest editor for the Journal of Environmental Science and Pollution Research.

In his academic career, he has lectured at Nile University of Nigeria, Kampala International University, and Tamale Technical University, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2023. He has held several leadership positions, including Dean and Head of Department.

Prof. Azeko is a professional member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Currently, he serves as the Inspector-General of Schools at the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), using his vast experience to enhance education standards in Ghana.

 

Prof Samuel A. Atintono is a Professor in Linguistics and indigeneous Ghanaian languages with specilization in the Mabia languages largely spoken in northern Ghana (Dagbani, Dagaare, Gurene, Kusaal, Kasem, Sisaali, etc). He is an educationist with vast experience in teacher education (over 20 years) at a teacher and researcher at the tertiary level.

He has served in various leadership positions as Head of Department, Ag. Dean, and graduate coordinator at the University of Education, Winneba. He is currently the Principal of Accra College of Education and also the President of the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education, Ghana.

He holds a PhD in Linguistics from University of Manchester (UK), MPhil and Postgraduate Diploma in Linguistics from University of Ghana, Legon and Bachelor of Education in Mathematics and Ghanaian Languages (Gurene).

He is an accomplished scholar at the international level winning both the Fulbright Research Fellowship tenable at University of Florida, Gainsville (USA) and the Commonwealth Academic Scholarship tenable in UK. 

He is a literacy consultant and has been consulted widely by USAID, UNESCO, World Bank, World Education, GILLBT, and Ghana Government on Education and policy issues on language use in Education.

Dr. Amina Jangu Alhassan is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA), University of Cape Coast, Ghana. She holds a PhD in Education (Leadership, Policy and Change) and has over two decades of experience spanning teaching, educational leadership, policy analysis, and distance education management.

Dr. Jangu Alhassan has served in several leadership and administrative roles, including Regional Coordinator and Resident Tutor with the College of Distance Education, UCC, and currently coordinates postgraduate distance education programmes at IEPA. Her research interests include educational leadership and policy, administrative systems in education, distance education, and educational psychology.

She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to international conferences (example, CIES conferences), and participated in major national and international education projects (Examples, Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-TEL) Project (Member, 2022), contributed to research and reform of Senior High School education; Partnership for Research on Progress and Resilience in Education – CGD (Project Manager, 2020), managed pre-tertiary education research during COVID-19 disruptions).

Dr. Alhassan also brings strong experience in board and committee service, mentorship, and community engagement, with a demonstrated commitment to inclusive, evidence-based, and context-responsive educational development.

 

Marjorie Affenyi is a distinguished retired educator with 37 years of experience in the Ghana Education Service (GES). Holding an M.Ed. in Educational Administration from the University of Cape Coast (2012), a Post-Graduate Diploma in Educational Mentorship from the University of Education, Winneba (2011), and a B.Ed. in Home Economics Education (1997).

She has excelled in leadership roles, including Headmistress at Achimota School (2019–2022) and Odupong Senior High School (2018–2019), Assistant Headmistress at Swedru Senior High School (2015–2018), and various teaching positions since 1992.

Her achievements include mentoring university undergraduates, training staff in classroom management, developing marking schemes for WASSCE/BECE, and guiding students to top National WASSCE EXCELLENCE awards rankings with Achimota School coming 3rd in General Science (2019) the whole of West Africa, 2nd in General Arts (2020) National and 3rd  in visual Arts (2021).Additionally she was a National Planning committee member for the best teacher awards.

She has attended international conferences on gender equality and women’s education in Bangkok, Dublin, and Accra, and she was the National Publicity and Organizing Secretary of NAGRAT, an Executive committee member of WAWEN and also Task Force Committee member on Vocational Education and Training (VET) Education International, EL. She also served as Vice President of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Alumni Association (2015-2017). Skilled in interpersonal communication, compassion, classroom management, and instruction, she enjoys playing Table Tennis, reading and gardening. Currently she serves as a school Improvement Advisor for T-TEL and GES

Dr. Chrysogonus Anab fondly called Chrys is a member of the Governing Board of the National Teaching Council (NTC) of Ghana. He is currently the Head of Department for the Department of Sustainable Development Studies, at the University for Development Studies, Tamale.

He has supported the development of undergraduate and graduate programmes for his Faculty for accreditation by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and has twenty (20) peer reviewed publications to his credit. Chrys is a trained teacher with experiences teaching at the basic, secondary and tertiary levels of Education in Ghana.His areas of expertise include educational management, educational research, monitoring and evaluation, strategic planning and sustainable development.

He has consulted extensively for various institutions including Oxfam in Ghana, ActionAid Ghana, STAR Ghana Foundation, Canadian Feed the Children, West African Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Children Believe, School for Life, Friends of the Nation and many others. Prior to joining the University for Development Studies in 2018, he served as a Country Director for two international NGOs namely Canadian Feed the Children, a Canadian NGO and International Service, a UK NGO.

His academic credentials include:  a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies Education and M. Ed in Educational Administration all from the University for Cape Coast, MSc in Managing Rural Development from the University of London, UK and A PhD in Endogenous Development from the University for Development Studies, Tamale.

 

Obenfo Nana Kwasi Gyetuah is an educationist with a strong background in educational leadership and governance. His qualifications include an MPhil in Educational Leadership and Corporate Governance, a Master’s in French Language, a Bachelor of Business Administration, and an LLB.

He is the National Executive Director of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), a position he has held since 2017, focusing on policy advocacy and improving private education quality.

Key accomplishments include initiating the first private education delegation to the Presidency and Parliament, leading the development of educational policy papers, and championing inclusive, equitable education. He was appointed to the Board of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) in 2025 to represent private education providers. Additionally, he is the CEO of GEKAD Educational Consult and has experience as a head teacher with the Ministry of Education.

Togbe Foe Tsali II is a seasoned educationist and traditional ruler with nearly three decades of professional teaching experience since September 1996. He currently serves as the Headmaster of Vakpo Senior High School in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region, having previously headed Alavanyo Senior High Technical School and Kpedze Senior High School. He also holds the position of National Vice President of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS).

A distinguished chief of the Sokpoe Traditional Area in the South Tongu District, Togbe Foe Tsali II combines traditional leadership with modern educational administration. He holds a Master of Education degree in Home Economics and has received professional certifications in Conflict Resolution, Educational Strategy, Planning and Administration, and Generative AI for Applied Research.

He serves on several national and international bodies, including the National Teaching Council, WAEC, NaCCA, and the African Confederation of Principals. As Headmaster, he has demonstrated visionary leadership, strengthening discipline, stakeholder collaboration, and academic planning at Vakpo SHS. His interests include music, sports, dancing, children’s welfare, and community development, reflecting his lifelong commitment to service and education.

Mercy Nabia Sagbil is a proud product St John Bosco’s College of Education and University of Education, Winneba where she obtained Diploma in Basic Education, Degree in Basic Education and Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Management.

Ben Nick Barnor is a seasoned public administration officer with over twenty-six (26) years’ experience in Ghana’s Public Administration and has provided substantial quality leadership, technical and supervisory support in both the country’s Civil Service and Local Service.

I have strong exposure in Leadership, Strategic Management, Project and Organizational Change Management, Team Building, Monitoring & Evaluation and Budgeting.

The combination of my career and training in both the Civil and Local Government Services provides for solid skills and excellent experience in the Public Administration of Ghana.

In 1997, I gained employment with the Ghana Civil Service as an Administrative Officer with the grade of Assistant Director IIB and through high sense of responsibility and hard work has risen to the present grade of Director of Administration.

I am currently with the Ministry of Education as Director responsible for Statistics, Research and Information Management.

 

Mr. Sampson Damptey Tetey is a member of the National Teaching Council Board. He is representing the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) on the Board.

He is currently the Director for Accreditation, Assessment and Certification at CTVET. He serves on the Board with a strong background in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
